LETTER: We Are at War with Putin

Submitted by Monica Prihoda, Old Greenwich

Who are we kidding?  We ARE at war with Putin.

Monetary sanctions, sanctions on Putin and some – not all – of his cronies and oligarchs, sending arms  are a strong start – but not strong enough to deter Putin.  Decimating Ukraine until there is nothing left – people, families, homes, schools, hospitals, animals, environment, is a not so subtle attack on all democracies – NATO, the United States and more.

What is the free world waiting for?  Until Ukraine is a black hole and then watch Putin follow Ukrainian refugees into Poland… and then… Putin has nothing to lose and everything to gain.  He has proven untrustworthy from the get go.  A winning bet is he will not lose whatever face he believes he has and back down.

The Ukrainian people are living in pain and horror.  We only watch in horror.  The United States and NATO countries – can all share in that pain.  What is paying more for gas and food compared with paying for it with blood, death, loss and destruction imposed by this war?

All sanctions should be imposed on Putin now.  A few weeks, months will be too late. Put in a no fly zone.

I have never been more proud to be a first generation Polish American.  The Polish people give the world a shining example of how to take care of each other in welcoming Ukrainian refugees.

In the meantime, support the Ukrainian people with donations for medical supplies, water and food.

This written by a life long pacifist.

Respectfully,
Monica Prihoda
