LETTER: Three Reasons to Vote Fiorello

Submitted by Beth MacGillivray

I am voting for Kimberly Fiorello.  Here are my top three reasons.

First, Fiorello received a historic, first-time endorsement from the Silver Shield Association representing Greenwich police officers, and other historic endorsements from the Stamford Police Association and Fraternal Order of Police CT.  Amazing!  She worked tirelessly with the police departments to learn the impact of the recently passed Police Accountability Act that is detrimental to our police.  She spent hours drilling down on the details and nuances of this ineffective legislation, which was fast tracked in Hartford.  Meanwhile, Stowe feels this endorsement is unjustified because she knows the police from her time on the BOE.

Really?  Stowe, you are not entitled to that endorsement.  Fiorello earned it through her hard work to understand the details of the Police Accountability Act – you didn’t.

No to Stowe, Yes to Fiorello.

Second, both candidates voice their fiscal conservativeness.  Most recently, Fiorello voted to keep Greenwich’s education budget flat year to year during this pandemic.  Fiorello voted against increases and has a track record that aligns with a fiscal conservative.  On the flip side, Stowe voted for spending increases in May without even understanding the details of the Board of Education’s budget which she oversees as Chair of the BOE’s Budget Committee.  Stowe votes for increases because in her words: “we are Greenwich”.

No to Stowe, Yes to Fiorello.

Third, both candidates have worked on Wall Street and consider themselves financially savvy.  Yet Stowe, head of the budget committee on the BOE, did not realize in May and June of this year that the BOE was likely to have a large surplus of funds for its 2019-2020 fiscal year.  Oops. How did she not know your own BOE budget,  a surprise surplus of $6 million? This lack of knowledge about matters on which a legislator must vote would not happen under Fiorello, who examined every detail of the Police Accountability Bill before it became law even though she is not yet a member of the state legislature!  Fiorello knows how to implement a budget as demonstrated when she created Ziplock, her small business.

No to Stowe, Yes to Fiorello.

We need someone in Hartford who will turnover every rock and find out what is really going on before casting a vote that affects her constituents.

No to Stowe, Yes to Fiorello!
