Electing the best candidate for the position of Municipal Tax Collector is the responsibility of every Greenwich voter. Qualifications are two-fold—personal traits and professional experiences. Greenwich voters are fortunate to have a candidate who excels in both arenas. I present to you Heather Smeriglio.
Heather and her husband John are third generation Greenwich natives and have raised five children in Town. They are honored to be Marine Corp parents of two sons currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. I have known Heather most of her life. I have had the privilege of watching her grow as a family friend, a member of the gymnastic class I taught, a teenager who gracefully navigated her school years, a professional young woman, and an outstanding mother.
Heather has grown into a sensitive, caring woman of faith who reaches out to those with whom she comes in contact regardless of the circumstances. As a member of Harvest Time Church, she volunteers on the Hosting Team. She has volunteered as Treasurer of the Greenwich Rotary and the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce.
Heather is Certified by the State of Connecticut as a Municipal Tax Collector. She spent four years working in the Tax Collector’s Office as an Account Clerk before being elected Tax Collector. In 2022 she was elected President of the Fairfield County Tax Collectors Association and in August 2023 Assistant Secretary of the CT State Tax Association. She was elected Town of Greenwich Tax Collector, a position she now holds. Her office continues to maintain one of the highest collection rates in the State of Connecticut at 99 plus consistency.
A former banker for over 30 years, she excels in using her people skills to do what she loves best: providing excellent customer service to the residents of Greenwich. Her integrity is beyond reproach, her reputation flawless.
