LETTER: Rachel Khanna vs. Tina Courpas – A Clear Choice for the 149th District

Submitted by Cathleen Donnelly, Stamford

As a longtime resident of the 149th District, I have been actively engaged in the race between Rachel Khanna and her opponent, Tina Courpas. The choice between the two could not be more clear. Rachel has consistently delivered results for our community. Tina has resorted to misleading attacks on Rachel’s record, offering no substantive solutions.

Since taking office, Rachel has brought back nearly $100 million in state funding to our district – money that supports school renovations, pedestrian safety improvements, and local nonprofits. This funding has had a direct, positive impact on Stamford and Greenwich residents, who benefit from investments in neighborhood schools like Roxbury Elementary and Central Middle School. Tina, on the other hand, has run a negative campaign, making unfounded claims about Rachel’s votes on key issues – falsehoods that have been fact-checked and debunked – demonstrating the extent to which she is willing to mislead voters for political gain.

Rachel’s accomplishments go beyond securing funding. She helped pass the largest tax cut in Connecticut’s history, reducing the burden on families across our district and our state. And she worked to ensure a fiscally responsible state budget that pays down pension liabilities and fully funds the state’s Rainy Day Fund. Rachel also played a key role in advancing legislation to promote public safety, including measures to combat gun violence and traffic and pedestrian safety.

Tina, by contrast, offers little in the way of new solutions. Her campaign has been filled with vague promises, but she has not demonstrated the experience or understanding to handle the complex challenges we face. At a time when our district needs proven leadership, Tina is simply not up to the task.

Rachel Khanna has shown time and again that she is committed to the well-being of our community. She has the skills, knowledge, and dedication to represent our community. I trust her to continue bringing results for the 149th District, and I encourage my fellow residents to support her in the upcoming election.
