LETTER: Khanna has fierce intelligence, focus, and humility

Submitted by Olivia Graham, Greenwich resident

I first met Rachel Khanna when my family and I moved from NYC to Greenwich 15 years ago. I was immediately struck by Rachel’s fierce intelligence, focus, and humility. With that in mind, I was thrilled to hear that she was running for State Rep for the 149th District.

Normally, I am a non-political person, but in the run up to November 8th I felt compelled to write a letter in support of Rachel.

Historically I have cast my votes for candidates supporting women’s rights and the environment – but with the terrifying and seemingly exponential increase in mass shooting events, I now vote with the issue of gun safety front and center.

In 2022 alone, there have been over 300 mass shootings in the United States. Connecticut is a national leader in gun safety laws, but there is more to do on gun violence prevention and I am confident that Rachel is the candidate to do this. Connecticut Against Gun Violence (CAGV) grades candidates running for general assembly and endorses those who will be public safety leaders. Rachel earned their A rating and their endorsement, while her opponent received a resounding F.

Rachel favors raising the age to purchase long guns to 21 and limiting bulk purchases of guns. She has also promised to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and fight back against attempts to weaken CT’s gun laws.

For that reason and having known Rachel and her wonderful family for over 15 years I am convinced that Rachel is, by far, the strongest candidate in this race and she has my full support as well as my vote.
