Klockenbrink: A Whole Other Ballgame

Submitted by Myra Klockenbrink

I support Jill Oberlander for State Senator.

The corruption at the federal level is a rot that threatens to undermine our economy for a decade. Or more. The consequences are already felt in the cost of living. Food, fuel and especially energy, already expensive in Connecticut, are a huge downward pressure on our quality of life. Healthcare coverage is out of reach for more and more CT residents, and a financial strain for the rest of us. There is a war on our wallets, and we need competent representatives who can fight back.

We need people who read, who are conversant with the issues, who understand how government works and who will roll up their sleeves to do the hard work of protecting Connecticut from the excesses and corruption of this presidency. Working across party lines is valuable, but it is not enough. Our representatives must also have the knowledge and judgment to recognize what is at stake and the experience to act effectively.

These are complicated problems under any circumstances. Add the instability and dysfunction in Washington, and the challenges facing Connecticut become that much greater.

Jill Oberlander brings that experience. She is a lawyer who understands public policy and the responsibilities of public service. She knows that representing Greenwich means more than showing up and casting a vote. It means doing the work, asking the hard questions and being prepared to defend our interests when they are threatened.

Joe Kelly is out-going, and his service on town Boards is a contribution to our town. But the state Senate is a whole other ballgame. The demands are greater, the issues more complex, and the consequences of inexperience more serious. This is not the time to learn on the job.

Connecticut needs a senator who can meet this moment with competence, knowledge and resolve. Jill Oberlander is prepared to do that work.

Editor’s note: Letters to the editor about candidates in the Nov 3, 2026 election, we will accept letters for consideration from Oct 1 to the 27. The deadline is a week before the election: Oct 27 at 12:00 noon. There is typically a backlog of letters received right up to the deadline, so we will continue to publish some of those letters after the deadline.
