Submitted by Rachel Khanna, Democratic candidate for Greenwich Selectwoman
I’m running for Selectwoman because I believe Greenwich can do better — and I know how to make that happen.
Too often, our town government waits until things are broken before taking action. Buildings fall into disrepair, services become outdated, hiring and appointments are driven by relationships rather than merit, and residents are left out of key decisions. But I know from experience that we can do more — and do it smarter — by listening, planning, and investing in the future.
That’s been my approach throughout my years of public service, whether on the PTA, the RTM, or as your state representative. I’ve seen firsthand how responsive leadership can improve lives and strengthen our community.
Take one cold afternoon in 2024. I stood with constituents and fellow Rep. Steve Meskers at the busy Post Road near the Port Chester line. People just wanted to safely cross the street — a basic issue that had been ignored for too long. I had spent months listening to residents about it. Just a few months later, we secured a $450,000 state grant to fix that intersection. That’s what effective leadership looks like.
In Hartford as State Rep, I made it my mission to ensure state laws reflect our town’s needs — and to bring home resources that help Greenwich thrive.
I’m proud to have:
● Secured $20 million to rebuild Central Middle School — nearly $15 million more than expected, even after the town missed the application deadline.
● Revived the long-stalled Glenville Corridor Traffic Improvement project with $6.5 million in state funding.
● Obtained funding for long-overdue repairs to the malfunctioning elevators at Greenwich Library.
● Delivered grants to local nonprofits that serve seniors, children, and families — including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greenwich and Stamford, River House, Parsonage Cottage, Barbara’s House, INTEMPO, and many more.
● Advocated for increased protections for firefighters, making early childhood education and care programs more available and affordable to residents, and free school meals.
My dedication to service began long before I held public office. When my family moved to Greenwich 25 years ago, I joined the Newcomer’s Club and co-chaired the children’s committee. That led to serving on the Parkway School PTA and the RTM. In every role, I’ve focused on the same things: listening, bringing people together, and getting things done.
Now I want to bring that same energy, experience, and problem-solving spirit to Town Hall. Greenwich is an incredible place — that’s why my family chose to make it home. But we have work to do to ensure it stays that way.
I’m ready to roll up my sleeves, work with colleagues, and listen to residents to make sure our town government delivers the services, planning, and accountability our community deserves.
Let’s build a better future for Greenwich — together.
