BERG: “Say No to SPLOTS”

Submitted by Peter Berg

SPLOTS is an acronym that stands for Strategic Plans Lying On The Shelf.

Greenwich has many important strategic plans gathering dust at Town Hall. They include the Schools Master Plan, Bicycle Master Plan, Sidewalk and Pedestrian Safety Plan, and plans for Safe Routes to School, Traffic Calming, Fire Safety, Open Space, Harbor Dredging, and Flood Control, among others.

If implemented, these strategic plans promise a higher Quality of Life for all Greenwich residents. They include our low income senior homeowners who are eligible for a Senior Tax Credit and the 30% of households who rent and therefore do not pay property taxes.

Important strategic plans are routinely blocked by austerity members on the Board of Estimate and Taxation and the Representative Town Meeting. They claim to represent low income seniors, but their actions mostly benefit affluent property owners who can easily afford to pay more.

Say no to SPLOTS. Vote for candidates who favor implementing our Quality of Life strategic plans over low increases in the property tax Mill Rate. You can find us at the League of Women Voters Guide.
