Thursday morning was special at the YMCA of Greenwich. When Sid Furie, a regular who enjoys his swims at the Y, arrived in the lobby, he discovered it was full of well-wishers ready to celebrate his 95th birthday.
Bob DeAngelo, the new executive director, presented Mr. Furie with a lifetime membership. “The next 50 years are on us,” Mr. DeAngelo said. “Congratulations, you are a real inspiration to us all.”
Mr. Furie was had a huge smile as he moved down ramp to the YMCA lobby on his Rollator and was invited to sit in a comfy wingback chair arranged beside giant “9-5” balloons and a birthday cake. Regulars at the Y lined up to congratulate Mr. Furie and the group all sang happy birthday.
