Jane Snowdon, in charge of the project, said other time capsules will not be opened until all spectators present are likely no longer around, so she thought opening one in 25 years most appropriate.
Ms. Snowdon presented the carefully preserved items being included in the time capsule, which included a 1940 commemorative map of Greenwich donated by the Putnam Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Israel Putnam House Association, current news articles, documents celebrating the 275th anniversary of Christ Church, a presentation by First Selectman Fred Camillo, children’s stained-glass artworks, and even a tribute to icon Taylor Swift.
A beautiful stone marker marks the spot it was buried. It was a moving ceremony, making one stop and think of our place in a moment of history; and we all hope to be around to see it reopened in 2049.
