It’s easy to see why Akinori Matsumoto ‘Sound Sculptures,’ the exhibit at Flinn Gallery inside Greenwich library is breaking recent attendance record history. Mr. Matsumoto’s sculptures is a mesmerizing, site-specific installation that engages visitors in unexpected ways. The installation is orchestrated using small motors and sequential timers.

Constructed primarily of bamboo and a variety of handmade papers, with accents of metal and wood, the delicate, intricately constructed pieces move in a randomly orchestrated manner, some driven by concealed miniature motors and timers, others by the natural elements of body heat, air and motion.

Surrounded by dancing shadows cast by the works, the installation transforms the gallery into an other-worldly sanctuary, inviting visitors in, captivating them to linger and luring them to return again and again.
