Temple Sholom to Host Jewish Collegiate A Cappella Competition

On Sunday, November 4, eight of the top Jewish collegiate a cappella teams from the Northeast will participate in the first-ever New England Competition and Showcase to be held at Temple Sholom (300 East Putnam Ave).

This event, which begins at 4:00 pm, will offer just over two full hours of entertaining a cappella performances by “The Alef Beats” (Brown University), “Ani V’Ata” (New York University), “Kaskeset” (Binghamton University), “Kol Halaya” (Rutgers University), “Manginah” (Brandeis University), “The Mazel Tones” (Wesleyan University), “Tizmoret” (Queens College) and “Shir Appeal” (Tufts University).

“A cappella, made popular by movies like Pitch Perfect and groups like The Maccabeats and Six13, is something that all ages can enjoy,” said event organizer Gaston Bernstein. “We are very excited to highlight some of the most talented collegiate a cappella singers from the Jewish community.”

During the competition and showcase, teams will perform songs in both English and Hebrew. A panel of distinguished judges will then evaluate the teams in the competition category and will select winners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Awards for “Best Soloist” and “Best Beatboxer” will also be presented.
