Open Arts Alliance Announces Auditions for The Sound Of Music & KC@Bat

Open Arts Alliance is proud to announce auditions for its upcoming season including the beloved family classic The Sound of Music and the off-Broadway premiere of KC@Bat.

Auditions will be held December 11, 12 & 13 at 6:00pm at River House (125 River Road Extension, Cos Cob, CT 06807).

Callbacks will be held on December 15 at 6:00pm.

Offering two spring musicals for 2024 is a departure for the non-profit organization and allows for increased student learning opportunities including the chance to perform in a professional off-Broadway theatre.

Rocco Natale, Executive Director of Open Arts Alliance says, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to perform in the historic theatre.

“The value of our students stepping onto a professional theatre stage is priceless,” Natale said. “In the past six years, we have seen our spring MainStage productions deepen the learning and fabric of our performers and giving kids the chance to shine in a new off-Broadway musical as well as a family classic felt like the next step in challenging our students and widening our community.”

The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of World War II take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

In KC@Bat, Ernest Thayer’s beloved poem about fictional baseball legend Casey and the town of Mudville springs vividly to life in the present day. When young KC moves to Mudville with her father from New York City, she struggles to fit in at her new school. But through her love of baseball, KC whips the down-and-out little league team into shape, learning that there are things even more important than winning. This musical with a book by Natale and music by composer Zachary Kampler has been presented around the country and Natale is excited to see it have a run in New York City.

“After a decade of regional productions, it feels like the right moment for a big apple adventure,” Natale said.

All youth ages 6-18 are encouraged to audition. Required audition registration can be completed at www.OpenArtsAlliance.com by December 10t

Auditioners need only attend one of the scheduled audition dates. Children auditioning should be prepared to sing a song of their choosing a cappella, and be ready to read from a portion of the script.
