Greenwich Pen Women & Perrot Library Book Discussion Continues with Joyce Carol Oates “Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars.”

Greenwich Pen Women and Perrot Memorial Library continue their cosponsored book discussion series on Monday, September 20, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, via Zoom with a discussion on Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars., by one of America’s most important contemporary writers, Joyce Carol Oates.

The discussion will be facilitated by Greenwich Pen Women member Barbara Ehrentreu, a local author.

“The Perrot Library discussions bring a depth of understanding to the reading of books that are bestsellers,” Ehrentreu said in a release. “Being able to have a discussion and interact with an audience of readers enables all of us to find out more about the authors as well as the books we read.”

“Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars. is a gripping examination of contemporary America through the prism of a family tragedy: When a powerful parent dies, each of his adult children reacts in startling and unexpected ways, and his grieving widow in the most surprising way of all. Stark and penetrating, Joyce Carol Oates’s latest novel is a vivid exploration of race, psychological trauma, class warfare, grief, and eventual healing, as well as an intimate family novel in the tradition of the author’s bestselling We Were the Mulvaneys,” she added.
