Cos Cob School proudly upholds its decades-long tradition of the annual 5th grade play with this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz, Young Performers Edition, featuring 5th grade performers alongside 4th grade show chorus members. Performances will take place on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27.

Inspired by L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the enduring The Wizard of Oz movie, this year’s production brings renewed life to a story that has captivated generations. At its core, the narrative offers a meaningful reflection on courage, compassion, and self-discovery—reminding audiences that the qualities we seek are often already within us.
In just a few short months, an empty stage has been transformed into the Land of Oz through the collective efforts of a cast of 40 students, nearly 30 chorus members, and a dedicated team of educators, staff, and families. Their collaboration and commitment exemplify the spirit of this longstanding school tradition.

Chris Powers (Director); Stephen Babyak (Set/Backstage); Kristy Bennett (Choreography/Acting); Victoria Bee (Acting/Backstage); Michele Pennino (Coordination/Costumes); Juana Camargo (Props); Katy Young (Lighting); Mike Tocci (Sound); Bridget Hadden (GHS Student Volunteer); along with a devoted group of parent volunteers whose behind-the-scenes contributions help bring the production to life. The Cos Cob PTA’s continued support plays a vital role in making this experience both memorable and meaningful for students.
All are warmly invited to follow the yellow brick road for what promises to be an engaging and uplifting theatrical experience. This charming production offers not only entertainment, but a heartfelt reminder that “home” is not simply a place, but a feeling we carry with us.
