Greenwich Police arrested a Bronx, NY man on Oct 15 in relation to an incident back on April 30, 2026. On that date plainclothes officers assigned to the Organized Retail Crime Abatement (ORCA) unit investigated a financial crime at a store on Greenwich Avenue.
The arrestee was one of two individuals detained.
Investigation revealed that the suspect, Gabriel Morillo, 23, and a co-conspirator were attempting to add cell phone lines to compromised Verizon / AT&T accounts using fake identification cards.
A subsequent search of the vehicle in which Mr. Morillo and his co-conspirator were located revealed numerous pieces of forged documents, Apple receipts from the tri-state area on various dates, multiple brand new iPhones, large amounts of US currency, and over 10 older model iPhones.
Following the arrest in April, ORCA officers seized the cell phone of Mr. Morillo and obtained a search & seizure warrant for the data.
The search revealed numerous items of evidentiary value including the arrestee knowingly trafficked personal identifying information belonging to multiple ID Theft victims by sending that information to multiple co-conspirators through Telegram.
With an arrest warrant approved, police were able to arrest Mr. Morillo when he arrived in Stamford Superior Court for his appearance related to the April arrest.
He was charged with four counts of Illegal Traffic in Personal Identification Information and four counts of Conspiracy to Commit/Illegal Traffic in Personal Identification Information.
His bond was set at $250,000, which he was unable to post.
