Eastern Middle School Debaters Deliver Outstanding performance

Eastern Middle School students delivered an outstanding performance at the recent Connecticut Middle School Debate League (CTMSDL) competition, bringing home top honors and multiple individual awards in the highly competitive Open Debate Division.

Leading the charge, eighth graders Veera Singh, Sikander Tiwana, and Sophia Bhatia earned First Place Overall, showcasing exceptional teamwork, critical thinking, and persuasive speaking skills. Their victory marks a significant achievement for the school’s growing debate program.

In addition to the team’s top finish, several students were recognized individually for their speaking excellence. Parth Gada secured 2nd Place, Sophia Bhatia added to her success with a 3rd Place finish, and Asher Shapiro earned 5th Place—all in the Speaker Awards category for the Open Debate Division. These honors reflect not only their strong argumentation abilities but also their poise and clarity under pressure.

Eastern Middle School’s debate program continues to thrive under the leadership of Mathew Tracey.

The program is further strengthened by the dedication of Greenwich High School student mentors Vidya Dhruvkumar and Pilar, along with Parent Debate Adviser Mallika Singh, whose guidance and support have been instrumental in nurturing student talent.

This impressive showing at the CTMSDL highlights the commitment, preparation, and passion of Eastern Middle School’s young debaters. With such momentum, the team is poised for continued success in future competitions.
