Local Mom Jackie Moy Builds Greenwich’s Mahjong Community One Tile at a Time

Mahjong is the latest social pastime sweeping from town to town, and Greenwich Mahjong Club has been teaching and promoting the game over the past few years, uniting people in Greenwich around the Mahjong table.

As interest continues to grow, Greenwich Mahjong Club launched the first structured Greenwich Mahjong League in January 2026. With the Winter League currently underway, registration is now open for the Spring League, which will begin in March.

Founded by Greenwich resident Jackie Moy, a local mom who believes deeply in Mahjong’s ability to bring people together, Greenwich Mahjong Club was shaped by the post-COVID era, when many were craving meaningful social connection.

The club is built on the idea that Mahjong offers cognitive, social, and emotional benefits while fostering genuine community. The game naturally bridges generations — friends gather to play, families learn together, spouses sit side by side, and mothers and daughters share the experience. Those who arrive solo often leave with new friends and a strong sense of belonging.

Over the past few years, the community-based Greenwich Mahjong Club has hosted successful programs and collaborated with local institutions including Greenwich Library, Cos Cob Library, Greenwich Adult & Continuing Education, and the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, which is now the club’s home for league play and Mahjong programs. The club has also partnered with local country clubs and vendors and previously sponsored a Mahjong Club at Greenwich High School.

Greenwich Mahjong Club invites residents to join Greenwich’s growing Mahjong community. For those new to the game, the club’s highly regarded Mahjong 101 program offers a welcoming and supportive introduction. For newly learned and seasoned players alike, the Spring League provides structured, friendly play in a warm community setting.

Greenwich Mahjong Club looks forward to welcoming players — new and experienced alike — around the Mahjong table. To learn more about the Mahjong League or Mahjong 101 programs,
