An evening news release from Stamford Police on Tuesday said upon preliminary investigation, officers responded to a residence on Oaklawn Avenue, which escalated into a barricaded-suspect incident.
Oaklawn Ave runs east/west between High Ridge Rd and Newfield Ave. The residence was across from Fairfield Memorial Park.

The release said that as officers approached the residence, their vehicles came under gunfire. From there, multiple agencies responded with additional resources to assist.
Stamford Police said during the course of the incident, the suspect exchanged gunfire with Stamford officers and ultimately appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Any further information will be released by the Inspector General’s Office. The scene is currently being processed by the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit.
