Aquarion to Hold Public Hearing on Diversion of Water Impacting Towns Including Greenwich

Towns:  Bridgeport, Wilton, New Canaan, Darien, Stamford, Fairfield, Easton, Weston, Redding, Greenwich, Westport, Norwalk

Waters: Hemlock Reservoir System, groundwater, Saugatuck River below Saugatuck Dam, Aspetuck River below Aspetuck Dam, and Cricker Brook below Hemlocks Dam  

DEEP has made a tentative determination to approve an application from Aquarion for a permit to divert the waters of the state.

The proposed activity includes the modification of Water Diversion Permit #DIV-97-13 to increase the authorized maximum daily transfer from the applicant’s Greater Bridgeport System to their Southwest Fairfield County Region from 7.26 million gallons per day (MGD) to 14.2 MGD and will be further limited by an annual daily average of 12.56 MGD. 

Public Hearings

Pursuant to section 22a-371, DEEP will hold a hearing to receive public comments on this application on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 3:00pm by Zoom.

The DEEP held a site visit on Thursday, April 22, 2021 commencing at 10:00am starting at the Hemlocks Reservoir dam located at 4970 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield.
