Woman Charged for Using Stolen EBT Card in Greenwich

On Sept 17 a Bridgeport woman surrendered to Greenwich Police on an outstanding warrant for an incident stemming back to Feb 13 on Davis Ave.

Lesha R Powell, 48, of Ezra Street in Bridgeport, was charged with Criminal Impersonation, Identity Theft 3, Receipt from Illegal Use of Credit Card, Payment Card Theft, Illegal Possession Personal ID Info Device, and Larceny 2 Embez.

According to Greenwich Police Captain Mark Zuccerella, Ms Powell allegedly used someone’s EBT card without the person knowing.

EBT is short for Electronic Benefit Transfer.

Issued via the CT Dept of Social Services the cards are used for food stamps and cash assistance benefits from the State.

“She got a hold of that, used the account and stole a bunch of money,” Zuccerella said.

Powell’s bond was set at $50,000.

She was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Oct 2, 2020.
