Teen Charged with Operating a Drug Factory after Motor Vehicle Stop

On Tuesday around 1:45am Greenwich Police on patrol on East Putnam Ave observed a vehicle with its rear license plate not properly illuminated. Upon conducting a motor vehicle stop, police observed two glass jars of marijuana in plain view in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, two back packs were located.

Patrick H Vanriel, 18, of 68 LeGrande Ave in Greenwich, took possession of one of the backpacks which contained nine new THC vials and two new vial inhalers. A third type of inhaler was located with a vial attached to it.

Vanriel told police that the contents of the vehicle belonged to him by stating, “It’s all mine. That’s it.”

A second passenger took possession of the second backpack, which contained a smaller amount of marijuana, under 1/2 oz. That person was issued an Infraction ticket for Possession of Marijuana under 1/2 Oz.

The driver was issued an infraction ticket for Failure to Illuminate Rear Marker.

Vanriel was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Operating a Drug Factory and Illegal Possession. His bond was set at $500.

He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on August 8, 2018.
