Greenwich residents commented on the Facebook group Greenwich Connections this weekend about a party Saturday night on Rock Ridge Ave where the original anonymous post referred to 2,000 kids at a party that was “crazy and out of control.”
“It was pure INSANITY!!! Kids everywhere drinking, running in the streets, ambushing cars. Police were dispersing the area but basically didn’t do much. I literally must have walked through a minimum of 2000 kids tonight looking for said family member… majority of them had beer cans in hand. They were fighting one another… honestly chaos…” the anonymous commenter said in their post.
On Monday morning Greenwich Police public information officer, Lt Patrick Smyth said the situation may have been exaggerated.
“There was apparently a party planned, not known by GPD, by some parents for their child that was supposed to be attended by approximately 100 or so people. The parents were at the residence and had event/party staff on scene as well,” Smyth said, adding, “However, probably through social media other people found out about the party and decided to just show up, possibly as many as 300 total.”
Smyth said Greenwich Police were advised about the issue at approximately 8:30pm and responded. Most of the Officers had cleared the scene within an hour, and the last Police Officer remained to monitor the area and cleared at approximately 10:15pm.
He went on to explain that the uninvited group dispersed and left the area without further incident.
Lastly, he said Police related that none of the youths that they made contact with appeared intoxicated, and the parents alleged that they did not supply any alcohol for the event and that if there was any alcohol, some of the uninvited must have brought their own supply.
