Driver Charged with Speeding, Driving Wrong Way, DUI

On Jan 21 around 2:50am, Greenwich Police conducting speed enforcement on Delavan Ave in Byram spotted a car headed east going 54 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

Police attempted to stop the car but the vehicle continued straight at a decreased speed.

The car then abruptly entered the opposite lane of travel to turn onto the entrance ramp of I-95 where it began to swerve and strike a curb on the right shoulder.

Police say the vehicle corrected itself and re-entered the travel lane, continuing straight until pulling over just before entering the highway.

At that point, police were able to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

While speaking with the driver, identified as Gabriel Gurgitano, 42, of Norwalk, police detected the strong odor of alcohol. The arrestee submitted to field sobriety tests but was unable to perform them to standard.

He was charged with Speeding, DUI, Failure to Drive in Proper Lane, and Driving Wrong Way on Divided Highway.

He was released after posting the required 10% of his $250 bond. He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 4, 2022.
