Respondents to Greenwich Library’s recent community survey were highly satisfied with the library’s programming, communications, and offerings – both in-person and digital.
Greenwich Library conducted the survey in spring 2024 to examine the community’s usage and satisfaction with library collections, services, and programs. This anonymous survey was part of Greenwich Library’s three-year strategic plan – Greenwich Library Reconnects – launched in 2023.
The survey was open for four weeks from April 24 through May 21. A total of 1,887 respondents participated in the survey, including 1,876 in English, 5 in Japanese, and 6 in Spanish. Current users and non-users, ages 12+, were encouraged to complete the survey.
The survey asked patrons to consider their experiences with Greenwich Library, its Byram Shubert and Cos Cob branches, as well as the library’s website and app. Perrot Memorial Library, an independent library, was not evaluated as part of this effort.
Key Takeaways include:
- At least 96% of respondents are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with in-person offerings.
- At least 97% of respondents are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with digital offerings.
- At least 94% of respondents are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with programming.
- At least 96% of respondents are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with Library communications.
Respondents interact with the library frequently. Over half (51%) of respondents use the library weekly, either in-person or online. 15% of respondents use the library daily, either in-person or online. Respondents feel welcome at library locations (88% strongly agree) and agree that library staff are personable and helpful (85% strongly agree).
“We are very pleased with the results of the community survey. This overwhelming support is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters,” said library director Joe Williams.
“We are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence the community has placed in us, and we remain committed to providing a high level of service. The survey also identified some areas for improvement, specifically regarding the room reservation process, library website and social media presence, as well as programming availability, particularly for teens. Our staff is already working to address these concerns.”
The survey identified opportunities to increase awareness about several library collections including Lending Art, Bloomberg terminal access, and museum passes, as well as services such as the Book Van delivery service to local senior facilities, and personalized book bundles for children.
The survey was designed by a committee of library staff and trustees in consultation with BERK Consultants, Inc, a Seattle-based consulting firm. The library also collaborated with BERK on its recent Strategic Plan, Greenwich Library Reconnects. The library’s board of trustees provided the funding for the project.
