On Saturday the night skies over the Indian Harbor Yacht Club were buzzing with drones in a celestial display that was part of the club’s 135th anniversary celebration.
During the drone show, which was in lieu of a more traditional fireworks display, illuminated drones lined up to create a variety of images including a champagne bottle and pair of glasses, a nautical flag, and the numerals 135.
The result was a safe, sustainable event with lower environmental impact.
In fact, in many locations across the US, drone shows are taking the place of traditional pyrotechnics for a variety of reasons, ranging from reducing pollution to avoiding risk of wildfires. And they’re quieter, as opposed to traditional fireworks that expose animals – not just pets, but also wild animals and livestock – to immense stress.
The effect of hundreds of glowing synchronized drones reversed out against the black night sky, often set to music, is memorable indeed.
