Greenwich Pride 2023 Event Set for Sunday, June 4 at Town Hall

Greenwich Pride 2023 will take place at Town Hall on Sunday, June 4 beginning at 1:00pm with a formal program. First Selectman Fred Camillo will read a Proclamation declaring June LGBTQ Pride Month in Greenwich followed by the Pride flag raising. After the flag raising and speakers, the event will continue until 3:00pm with games, activities and ice cream.

The event is being organized by the Greenwich Pride Committee in collaboration with the Town of Greenwich. This will be an inspiring afternoon of programs and activities in support of honoring LGBTQ+ residents and our family and friends and allies.

A release from the Greenwich Pride Committee notes that LGBTQ+ people are Greenwich residents, family members, friends, neighbors, doctors and lawyers, teachers and first responders, parents and students, and so many other important members of our town.

“The rights of LGBTQ+ people, and transgender people in particular, continue to be targets for attack by extreme factions, including in this town,” the Greenwich Pride Committee said in the release. “The need for visible allyship and education about LGBTQ+ lives and experiences and the need for equal rights and safety for our community is paramount. Pride Month is an opportunity for us to come together, be visible, celebrate and commit to creating a more equitable, fair and safe town and society for LGBTQ+ people to survive and thrive.”

As it reads in the Greenwich Pride Proclamation that will be read by First Selectman Fred Camillo on June 4, “The Town of Greenwich proudly supports the rights of every citizen to experience equality and freedom from discrimination. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) communities contribute to the cultural, civic and economic successes of the Town of Greenwich; and we as a society acknowledge the need for education and awareness to end discrimination and prejudice.”
