GHS Then and Now: Tracking Trends and Interests through the Compass Yearbook

Now defunct clubs at GHS tell a story. Once there were clubs dedicated to specific professions including Future Doctors of America, Future Nurses of America, Future Teachers of America, and Future Business Leaders of America. Back in 1941, GHS cheerleaders were boys! In the 1980s, Greenwich High had a synchronized swimming club.

The Polar Bear Club dived into the Long Island Sound every other Sunday from November to Aprll. Its’ members wrote, “We love it! If you have never been to a Polar Bear swim, you will never understand the feeling of accomplishment you could have, standing on the beach dripping wet, with icicles forming in your hair.” Photo: Compass yearbook, 1990 Continue Reading →
