Greenwich synchronized swimmer heads to Pan American Games

katieKatie Farrell of Greenwich, a rising senior at Sacred Heart Greenwich, has been named to a national synchronized swimming team and will spend her summer training with swimmers from across the United States in preparation for the Pan American Games.

Katie recently qualified for the USA Jr National Team-2 by excelling at the US Nationals in synchronized swimming. The Greenwich swimmer’s selection for the national team came because of steadfast work and vigorous training. Qualification for this team recognizes her as one of the top 25 synchronized swimmers in the U.S. for her age group.

After training in California this summer, Katie and her teammates will represent the United States in The UANA Pan American Synchronized Swimming Championships, which will be held August 30-September 4 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Katie started synchronized swimming was she was only eight-years-old and has won numerous titles and medals since then. She swims for the New Canaan YMCA team, the Aquianas, and trains up to 20 hours a week. The New Canaan Aquianas are rated as the top team on the East Coast.

Katie’s accomplishments include the following:

• 2016: US Nationals – 4th place team, 15th place duet;

• 2015: Junior Olympics – team 3rd place; duet 5th place and figures 6th place;

• 2015: US Nationals – team 4th place.

Katie is a six-time member of the East Coast All Star Team, and three-time East Zone Scholar Athlete.
