Assistant Principal at Hamilton Avenue School Departs

Update received 6:39pm, Tuesday, Feb. 16 from Kim Eves at Greenwich Schools:

Hamilton Avenue School Principal Cindy Rigling sent the following note to school parents and staff today, “Due to personal reasons, Ms. Vargas-Guevara had to resign her position with the District. We wish her well in her future endeavors.

We welcome Ms. Trudi Durrell as the Interim Assistant Principal. Ms. Durrell is currently the coordinator of ESL/Bilingual education for the GPS. She is familiar with both the district and the specific needs of the Hamilton Avenue community. Ms. Durrell will begin to transition from her current role into this position over the next few weeks. She will be a great resource and asset to the Hamilton Avenue School and community as we begin a search for a new Assistant Principal for the 2016-2017 School Year. We are working on setting a date for parents to meet Ms. Durrell in the near future and will share that information as soon as possible.”

District administration will develop a short-term plan to cover Ms. Durrell’s current ESL program responsibilities.

Bio Brief: Carmen Vargas-Guevara Ms. Vargas-Guevara began working in the Greenwich Public Schools as Assistant Principal of Hamilton Avenue School in August 2013. Prior to working in Greenwich, she served as teacher and administrator in Connecticut and Massachusetts public schools.

Ms. Guevara received her B.A. degree from Salem State University (Cambridge, MA); a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College (Cambridge, MA); and additional graduate study at both Salem State University and the University of Connecticut.

Bio Brief: Trudi Durrell. An educator for twenty years, Ms. Durrell has been with the Greenwich Public Schools since 2001, initially as an ESOL teacher and since 2010 as the ESL Program Coordinator for the District. Prior to coming to Greenwich, Ms. Durrell spent five years (1996-2001) as an ESL Instructor at Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT and one year (1995-96) at PS 84Q in Long Island City, NY.

Ms. Durrell received her BA in International Diplomacy and Soviet Studies from the University of Connecticut,Storrs, CT in 1990. She received a Masters in TESOL from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, New York, NY in 1995; and her Sixth Year Certificate in Reading and Remedial Language Arts from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT in 2000.

Dear Hamilton Avenue Families,
