Weekend Crash Involving Vintage Jeep Closes North Street S-B for 3-1/2 Hours

A spate of serious car crashes this weekend included a two-car crash on North Street that necessitated the closure of the southbound lane for 3-1/2 hours on Saturday.

According to a release from Greenwich Police, a serious two-car accident took place about 10:30am after a local resident who was driving a 1942 Jeep Willy Army Jeep when it left the road in the area of 600 North St and struck a telephone pole.

The Jeep bounced off the phone pole and back into the roadway where it was struck by another vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was in stable condition as of Saturday.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The roadway was not reopened to both directions of traffic until 2:00pm. The collision under investigation.
