Multiple Charges for Man Who Nearly Struck Motorist Near State Line

Byram Park was the scene of what was initially thought to be a car accident when Greenwich Police were contacted to assist a New York State Trooper on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The trooper had been flagged down by a motorist at the intersection of Byram Shore Road and Ritch Ave.

The investigation revealed that there was no accident, but rather that Byron O. Monterroso Diaz, 35, of 25 Chestnut Street in Stamford was operating a vehicle and almost struck the motorist who flagged down the trooper. The trooper stopped and detained Diaz and called Greenwich Police Dept. for assistance.

Investigation revealed that Diaz had glassy eyes, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feed and had the odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath and person. Based on Diaz’s performance of field sobriety tests, he was charged with DUI, Driving with No License, Operating with a Suspended/Revoked License, Driving with no Insurance and Illegal Parking in a Park. He was released on $350 bond and has a court date of Dec. 10, 2014 in Stamford Superior Court.
