Man Charged with Breach of Peace and Intimidation at Laundromat in Riverside

A 72-year old man was arrested by Greenwich Police on Friday afternoon following an incident at Launder Land, a laundromat near the intersection of Riverside Ave and East Putnam Ave.

Police were detailed to Launder Land around 2:00pm on a report of a verbal altercation.

Upon arrival officers spoke with a woman who related that she was verbally accosted by a man after she asked him to remove his bag of laundry from the top of a washing machine so that she could use it.

The man, John Winter, 72, of 33 Arcadia Rd in Old Greenwich allegedly became irate and made numerous derogatory racial slurs to the woman who is African American, while pointing his finger in her face. The victim further related that the man threatened to strike her.

The man’s belligerence continued to escalate to the point where she became fearful that he would in fact hit her and contacted the police.

Mr. Winter was arrested and charged with Breach of Peace 2 and Intimidation due to Bias 2.

Mr. Winter was released on a $1,500 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 26, 2018.
