UPDATE: Juveniles Arrested for Greenwich Alternative High School Bomb Scare

UPDATE: 12:40pm: Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray released a statement indicating two juveniles are being charged for Breach of Peace for alleged “prank” after calling in suspicious bag at Greenwich Alternative High School.

 At approximately 10:00 am, the Greenwich Alternative High School administration at their Riverside location was alerted to an unattended bag by two male students.  The juvenile males reported that a bomb may be contained within the bag. Following established Greenwich Public Schools protocols the police were immediately contacted, responded, and the building was evacuated.
The bag was ultimately identified as a student’s bag containing school supplies.  The two juvenile males under the age of 18 had alerted the staff to the bomb as a prank.  The juveniles are being charged with Breach of Peace.

 

Original Story: 11:15am May 3, 2016 A statement released from Greenwich Schools communications director Kim Eves on Tuesday at 11:10 am read:

Greenwich Alternative High School (GAHS) administration was alerted to an unattended bag at their Riverside location with a concern that a bomb may be contained within the bag.

Following protocols, police and fire were immediately contacted and responded; and the building was evacuated.

The bag was ultimately identified as a student’s bag containing school supplies. Students and staff have returned to the building and school is in session. Greenwich Police Department is finalizing its investigation into the specifics of the incident.
