Garden Catering Employee Arrested after Trying to Return Stolen Money

At about 9:00pm on Nov 22, Greenwich Police responded to Garden Catering on Sound Beach Ave in Old Greenwich on a report of a former employee having stolen money from the business.

According to Lt. Kraig Gray, Menchaca, who knew he had no authority to do so, remained at Garden Catering after hours and hid so that the night manager couldn’t see him.

“He took several hundred dollars from the store,” Gray said. “Subsequently he was caught trying to return the money after the fact. Apparently he had a change of heart after taking the money from an employer who had treated him well in the past.”

The employee, Jose L Menchaca, 24, of 1 Madison Ave in Port Chester was charged with Burglary 3 and Larceny 3.

His bond was set at $1,000 and he has a date in court on Nov 30, 2016 in Stamford Superior Court.
