Storm Pax Hub: Metro-North Will Operate Hourly Service Starting at 4pm

Metro North Service Alert:
Beginning at 4 PM, Metro-North will operate hourly service. This service plan reflects that we carried only one-third of normal ridership this morning and the effects of the heavy snowfall in our service territory. Train times will be available shortly on our interactive schedules page. Customers who are able to are urged to travel early before hourly service is put into effect. Metro-North is currently operating reduced service due to the winter storm with some local and express trains that serve adjacent stations being combined and making additional stops. UPDATE: 11:00a.m. Feb. 13:

An email from the YMCA:  “The YMCA will remain CLOSED on 2/13/14. If you plan on traveling around town today, please use extreme caution.”

No Jury Duty: All Judicial Branch Courthouses and administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, February 13, 2014. All oral arguments scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court or the Appellate Court on Thursday, February 13, 2014, have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later day.  All jurors scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2014, are cancelled because of the inclement weather that is forecast.

UPDATE: 10:00a.m. Feb. 13:

The National Weather Service forecast for Greenwich is for snow until 11:00am, then snow and sleet between 11:00am and 1:00pm, then rain and snow after 1:00pm, with snow heavy at times, with daytime accumulation of between 5 to 9 inches possible.

First Selecman Tesei asks residents to help by removing snow from fire hydrants in front of their properties and to keep cars off the roadways so that road crews can keep streets clear for emergency First Responder vehicle traffic.

Gov. Malloy has scheduled a news briefing for 5:00p.m. at the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Hartford to provide updates on today’s winter storm. The Governor has ordered all first and second shift non-essential state employees not to report to work on Thursday in response to the winter storm conditions across the state. State employees are encouraged to contact their supervisors for further guidance.

Original Story, Feb. 12:

National Weather Service forecast for Greenwich is for snow mainly after 2:00a.m. with a low around 18° and a total nighttime accumulation of 1-2″ of snow.

On Thursday the forecast is for snow before 11:00a.m., then snow and sleet between 11:00a.m. and 1:00p.m. and a high near 33°  New snow and sleet accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

On Thursday night  NWS forecasts rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all snow after 2:00am. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Metro-North to Operate Reduced Service on Thursday, Feb. 13 due to the winter storm with some local and express trains that serve adjacent stations being combined and making additional stops.

This service plan represents 75% of our regular service and is based on projected lower ridership and our efforts to minimize the effects of the storm on our equipment and infrastructure. The combined trains were chosen to minimize customer impacts and to get customers to their destination within 10-15 minutes of their normal time.

Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Norwalk: All DMV road test appointments are cancelled for Thursday, February 13.   Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. 

February 14, DMV offices will close at 12:30 p.m. for President Washington’s birthday.  Offices will reopen on Tuesday, February 18, at 7:45 a.m. 

YMCA of Greenwich. Due to the severity of the impending storm, the Y will have a delayed opening of no earlier than noon on 2/13/14. The safety our our membership and staff is our top priority. Greenwich Library: Delayed Opening til Noon. Due to the predicted inclement weather and icing conditions, Greenwich Library and its Byram Shubert and Cos Cob branches will be closed until noon on Thursday, February 13. Weather, parking lot and road conditions will be assessed in the morning to see if we are able to open the buildings for library service.

YWCA of Greenwich. THE TOWN OF GREENWICH HAS ISSUED A SNOW EMERGENCY EFFECTIVE 6PM, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2014. YWCA GREENWICH WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL THE SNOW EMERGENCY IS LIFTED.

Brunswick: Due to the predicted inclement weather, Brunswick School will be closed Thursday, February 13 and will re-open next Tuesday, February 18 at the conclusion of the Winter Break.

Greenwich Academy:Given predictions of another major storm, we are making the decision now that there will be no school tomorrow (Feb. 13). Be safe and have a wonderful long weekend.
