Chelsea Piers Connecticut Youth Hockey Director Sam Faber Signed by the CT Whale

Sam Faber, Youth Hockey Director at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, has added another major achievement to her illustrious hockey career. Faber has become the first publicly announced player for the newly formed CT Whale.

The CT Whale will play their home games at Chelsea Piers Connecticut and compete in the newly formed National Woman’s Hockey League (NWHL).

A native of Mount Sinai, NY, Faber was a member of the gold medal winning US Women’s World National Hockey Team at the 2008 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship.  In college, Faber played hockey for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (UNH). During her junior season, she set an NCAA record for most game-winning goals in one season (since tied). Faber was a three-time Hockey East All-Star First Team (2007, 2008, 2009) selection. Her 189 points at UNH are 5th all-time in school history.

After college, Faber played professionally during the 2010-2011 season for the Boston Blades of the Connecticut Woman’s Hockey League.

Faber would later join Chelsea Piers Connecticut in October 2012 as Youth Hockey Director. Faber oversees numerous youth programs for Chelsea Piers, including the largest Mite League program in the Tri-State area. Faber’s additional responsibilities include tournaments, camps, clinics and managing/hiring staff.

Faber is also a well-respected and highly regarded coach of competitive teams in the Fairfield County area. She coaches for the Connecticut Jr. Rangers and oversees a girls U14 travel team out of Darien.

“When I stopped playing for the Boston Blades, I truly thought my playing career was over. I can’t explain how happy and grateful I am to get the chance to play for the CT Whale and be a part of history playing in the NWHL,” Faber said.  “As the Youth Hockey Director at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, I have had the opportunity to give back what so many of my coaches over the years taught me about the game of hockey. I can’t wait for these kids [from Chelsea Piers] to come and watch me. I’m extremely humbled by this opportunity and I can’t wait to get back out there wearing a CT Whale jersey.”
