Theodore J. Brosko, 88, Lifelong Greenwich Resident

Theodore J. Brosko, age 88, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. He was born in Greenwich on August 7, 1928. He was a lifelong town resident and the son of the late Theodore and Mary (Koscajowska) Brosko. Ted was predeceased by his loving wife and lifelong companion of 50 years, Mary E. Brosko and his sister Anna Green.

Ted graduated from Greenwich High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class from 1951-1953 before receiving an honorable discharge. Ted proudly became a Greenwich Police Officer on July 1, 1953 and was later promoted to Detective in 1965, serving the Town of Greenwich for 27 1/2 years. He was often recognized for his service, commitment and volunteerism. In 1971, Ted was honored as the recipient of the prestigious John A. Clarke Award, given to an outstanding member of the Greenwich Police Department for his exemplary performance in the line of duty. He also received numerous awards from the Silver Shield Association for his excellent police work. After retiring from the police force in 1980, he went on to work 10 years at both Chesebrough-Pond’s (Unilever) and The Bank of New York before retiring.

Over the years, Ted was an active member of the St. Timothy’s Mens’ Club (where annually he ran his popular “Polish Open” golf tournament to raise money for the church), the Banksville Community House, the Retired Police Association of Greenwich, the Knights of Columbus and he was a charter member of the Banksville Independent Fire Department. He was instrumental in the organization of the Police baseball midget leagues and active in many Greenwich Police Club events and sponsored youth activities. On November 12, 1985, he was recognized by the Greenwich Old Timers’ Athletic Association for his outstanding athletic accomplishments on and off the field.

Ted loved to play golf, softball, baseball, horseshoes, fishing and spending time outside in his garden. He enjoyed all spectator sports; especially watching the UCONN women’s basketball team.

Ted is survived by his two sons; T. Shawn Brosko, and his wife Anne, of Wilton and Scott J. Brosko of Greenwich and his three grandchildren; Kelly, Shawn and Karen Brosko.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 10th from 4-8pm at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, Greenwich. Castiglionefh.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 11th at 12:00pm at St. Michael’s Church, 469 North Street in Greenwich.
