Nancy Elizabeth White: Mother, Sister, Friend, Nurse

Nancy Elizabeth White, R.N., following a courageous battle with cancer, died peacefully at the age of 68 surrounded by her five children in the comfort of her own home in Shelton.

Nancy was born on January 15th 1948, in New York, New York. She graduated from St. Vincent’s College in 1994 with a degree in Nursing and graduated with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude. She was honored to receive the Pasquariello Memorial Award for compassion shown to patients, consideration shown to peers and a high quality of job performance.

Her children remember her as a loving, strong, humorous, compassionate, supportive free spirit. Nancy encouraged her children to embrace their individuality and to pursue their passions.

Nancy loved being a mother, sister, friend and nurse. She cherished time with her family. Her laughter was easy and her support never ending. As an accomplished swimmer, Nancy instilled a deep love of the water in both her children and her grandchildren. Time with Nancy always led to great conversations, delicious home cooking and listening to awesome tunes. Nancy approached all people and all things with an open mind and an open heart. She left an indelible impression on all of the people that were fortunate enough to know and feel her grace.

Nancy is survived by her five children: Peter R. Gil (Heidi) of Milford, CT, Melissa M. Cox (Kevin) of Orange, CT., Robbie W. Gil (Abigail) of Fishkill, NY, Andrew B. Gil (Regina) of Stamford, CT and James B. Whiteside (Daniel) of New York City; her grandchildren: Andrew Gil, Kevin & Molly Cox, Elizabeth & Marianne Gil, and McKinley Gil. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father: Cora Jennings White & Robert Stephen White of Riverside, CT. She is also survived by her brother Bruce J. White (Mary Ann) and nephews Thomas A White (Alison) and Robert A. White.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1pm on Tuesday, July 5th at First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, CT 06870. A Reception will follow in the Church garden. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Leeway Inc. at 40 Albert St. New Haven, CT 06511.

The family is eternally grateful for the support and love provided to Nancy by: Elsie, Dorothy, Nancy, Donna and Chaplain Kim. To benefit and support future nurses, Nancy has donated her body to the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
