Town Settles with Family of JC Student Injured during Gymnastics

On Thursday morning at the Board of Selectmen meeting, the board voted unanimously in favor of a $90,000 settlement on legal action against the Board of Education and Julian Curtiss School PE teacher Steve Rogowski.

Peter Tesei announced the settlement, which stemmed from the injury of a child during PE class at Julian Curtiss School in 2012.

“Given the circumstances that have been outlined by the Town legal department and understanding the concerns and affirmations from some of the other governing bodies, we think it is in our best judgement to proceed with this judgement,” First Selectman Tesei said.

The law suit was initiated by Madeline Frost after her son, a 10-year-old 5th grader atwas injured during gymnastics class on Feb. 21, 2012.
