Public Forum Set for Selectmen’s BOE Charter Revision Committee

The Board of Selectmen Board of Education Section 66/67 Charter Revision Committee will hold a Public Forum to hear public comments on a proposal to change Section 66 and/or 67 of the Town Charter to require a voter referendum on any proposal to change the existence, mode of selection, composition, rights, powers, privileges or duties of the Board of Education.

The meeting will be held at Central Middle School on Nov. 14 at 7:00 pm.

At its May 30, 2017, the Board of Selectmen voted to appoint a Committee to continue review of the Town Charter in regards to the Board of Education. The Committee (with their party affiliations) is comprised of

  • Bill Finger (D)
  • Brian Peldunas (R)
  • Barry Rickert (U)
  • Peter von Braun (R)
  • Alexis Voulgaris (U)

The Committee is charged to “review a proposal to add the Board of Education to Section 66 and 67 of the Town Charter.  In particular, the establishment of a committee to consider a requirement that any change to the mode of selection, composition, rights, powers, privileges or duties of the Board of Education require a referendum.”

The committee reports back to the Board of Selectmen.
