Delayed Start Horseneck Bridge Project on Lake Ave: Work Starts Aug 4

Commencing on August 4, 2014, construction will begin on the Lake Avenue Bridge Superstructure Replacement project.

According to Frank Petise, Senior Civil Engineer with the DPW Engineering Division, the delay was because the precast prestressed concrete deck units will not be available until August 11th, so they decided to limit the closure time as much as possible.

“We didn’t want to end up in a situation where we closed the road, tore the bridge out and then had to wait for the units with no progress being made,” Petise said in an email.

The bridge is located on Lake Avenue north of Wooddale Road. As part of the construction work the road is scheduled to be closed at the bridge site from Monday, August 4, 2014 to Monday, August 25, 2014. The project is scheduled to be completed by November 2014.

The project was approved by Board of Selectmen in May and had been scheduled to start on June 23rd. However, the project was delayed.

The project was designed by GM2 Associates of Glastonbury. The construction will be performed by A. Vitti Excavators, LLC of Stamford, CT. The construction contract for the project is for $228,922.50
