UPDATE: Dave Theis Bridge Dedication: Detour on Rt 1 Advised

Dave Theis bridgewater main breakSunday 8:00am: The crew from Aquarion pulled an all-nighter, but the water main break by Toyota at 75 East Putnam Ave is not yet repaired and as of 8:30am, the entire stretch of Rt 1 between Indian Field Rd and Cross Lane is closed to traffic in both directions.

Sunday would have been his 66th birthday. Greenwich Selectman Dave Theis died suddenly last December, setting his friends and colleagues reeling. Republican or Democrat, Dave befriended everyone who he met. He is memorable for his compassion, generous spirit, and prolific voluntarism.

Due to the major water main break near the Toyota dealership and the hub of Cos Cob Saturday night, everyone planning to attend the official unveiling of the bridge in honor of Mr. Theis at 11:00am on Sunday Aug 30 at GADC, River House, is advised to plan extra time for detours if necessary.

Greenwich Police warn Saturday night that the repairs are expected to be an “all-nighter.”

During his WGCH 1490 radio show Ask the Selectman on Friday, Peter Tesei advised friends and colleagues to arrive early to find a suitable place to park. There will be a reception after the ceremony in the St. Lawrence Club.

Consider parking in the municipal lot by the Drawing Room and Cos Cob Library or possibly the parking lot by Sandy’s Summer Stand behind the former Fjord Fisheries on River Rd.

Watch for Greenwich Free Press coverage after the event.
