Shoppers and their dogs celebrated the opening of Raleigh & Co. on Bruce Park Ave on Saturday. The store offers an array of fine pet goods including treats, leashes, beds, gates, toys and apparel, including dog jackets and raincoats.
Guests enjoyed refreshments from Le Pain Quotidien, a dog-themed cake from Aux Delices. The owners of the store, Betsy Kaminski and Diane Galt, were generous with artisan pet treats and raffle winners were thrilled with the prizes.
As guests sipped champagne and dogs sampled treats, Betsy and Diane, along with their rescue Beagle “Raleigh,” the namesake of the store made new friends.
“We’ve had a great turnout today,” Betsy said, estimating that about 70 people stopped by for the grand opening. Betsy and Diane, who live here in Greenwich, hope to collaborate with non profit animal welfare organizations through their new shop.
“We like what the Gray Muzzle Organization is doing to help senior dogs. We were inspired by adopting our own dog,” Betsy said, as Diane showed off a birthday cake made with dog-friendly ingredients. Raleigh was rescued by Diane and Betsy in 2002 when the Beagle was a stray in North Carolina.
Betsy and Diane saw the need to open Raleigh & Co. after experiencing difficulties accessing the best products for their Beagle, Raleigh, who was found wandering the streets of Raleigh, NC in 2002. Following his rescue, Raleigh needed medical treatment and, as Betsy and Diane felt, a chance at the best life possible.
Eric Zimmerman and Oliver Bentley, “Ollie B” for short were on hand to introduce their store-within-a-store concept. Eric, who traveled all the way from Savanna, Georgia for the grand opening of Raleigh & Co in Greenwich said his Oliver Bentleys Biscuits are baked in small batches in Savannah.
The treats arealready sold in Whole Foods and Orvis in the 1 lb size. But, with the store-within-a-store concept at Raleigh & Co, customers can purchase the biscuits in a forever tin that they can replenish. There is also variety of options in terms of quantity.
“The idea is to get the dog treats onto the counter and out of the cupboard,” Eric said, adding that each biscuit is made with natural and organic ingredients. Oliver Bentleys biscuits are all made in Savannah and individually hand-stamped.
Raleigh & Co is located at 209 Bruce Park Ave, across from J. Papers, Bon Ton Fish Market and Greenwich Prime Meats.
