Cool Summer Job: Michael Negrea is Part of the Team at Elton’s Café

Michael Negrea, a rising 8th grader at Central Middle School, got his lucky break back in fifth grade. Michael, now 13, has spent many days in Greenwich Library where Elton’s Café is located in the lower level.

An avid reader, Michael said that for years he’s studied in the café, where he got hooked on the home made, fresh, food. On Wednesday, when a popular special was the pork loin sandwich with roasted pepper on a roll, Michael said he’s known Elton for years and was given a chance for part time summer work after 5th grade.

“I was good on the register, so he invited me back the following summer,” he said.

His favorites at the café include the bacon, egg and cheese on a roll, sausage and peppers and the pulled pork with apple cole slaw. “All the food is fresh, nutritious and inexpensive,” he said. “You can have a great nutritious lunch here for under $10.”

Michael, who has a quick smile and wonderful manners (shout out to Michael’s mom!) said he’s enjoying his third summer at the cafe, but has also had time to attend the Greenwich Schools Art & Music camp, directed by John Yoon.
