Greenwich Alliance Gives Thanks for 6th Annual Turkey Trot Success

Letter to the editor, submitted Dec 1, 2016

It was a beautiful day, on Saturday, November 26th, which brought out over 1200 enthusiastic runners and walkers to work off that extra slice (or two) of pumpkin pie at the 6th Annual Greenwich Alliance for Education (“Alliance”) Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.

A special thanks to Hospital for Special Surgery for sponsoring the 5K race again this year!

The Greenwich Police Department, GEMS, and 85 volunteers manned the Bruce Park course to keep runners safe.

Included amongst the youth volunteers were students from AVID, an Alliance funded college readiness system at Greenwich High School, Central and Western Middle Schools.

Thanks to donations from our generous sponsors, post-race music and snacks were enjoyed by all in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.  In an effort to encourage competitors of all ages, the Alliance tracks participants from the local schools and would like to recognize the efforts by Julian Curtiss Elementary School and Principal McGuire for having registered the greatest percentage of participants from their school. This is their fourth year winning the school competition.

Our sincere thanks go to all of our sponsors:

Other Race Day Contributors: Coca Cola, Garden Catering, Greenwich Track Club, Kings Food Markets, Rudy’s Executive Transportation, Upper Crust Bagel Company and ASF Promotions.

None of this would have been possible without the Race Directors Emmy Stocker, Jane Hentemann, Maureen Bonanno, Marlene Gilbert – Chair of the Greenwich Alliance; and of course the dedicated members of the Alliance’s Turkey Trot planning committee.

Our biggest thanks to all of you in the community who came out to race, walk, cheer, donate and volunteer. The Alliance is built upon the belief that educating kids is a shared community responsibility.  The Turkey Trot is a perfect example of our community coming together to make a difference for our kids.

Look for yourself and your neighbors in the photos on the Greenwich Alliance for Education website.  5K race results are posted on our website, www.greenwichalliance.org. Congratulations to all who participated.

If you couldn’t join the fun this year, we look forward to seeing you next year!
