The Greenwich Farmers Market manager Judy Waldeyer, who has her own stall, The Herb Basket,  reports that strawberries are ripening, and will be available in abundance on Saturday June 17, just in time for Father’s Day.

The Greenwich Farmers Market runs through the summer on Saturdays from 9:30am until 1:00pm. No dogs allowed.

The Saturday farmers market is a Producers-Only market, which means that the produce and products you purchase are grown and prepared by the farmers themselves, not “jobbers,” who buy and sell produce that is not their own and often claim it is.

RECIPE: Spinach and Strawberry Salad

Ingredients:
2 bunches spinach, rinsed and torn into bite-sized pieces
4 cups sliced strawberries
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 cup white sugar (I use 1/4 cup)
1/4 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Directions:
1. In a large bowl, toss together spinach and strawberries.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together oil, vinegar, sugar, paprika, sesame and poppy seeds. Pour over spinach and strawberries, and toss to coat.

Serves 8. Enjoy!
