RMA Talk: Reimagining the Greenwich Historical Society

The Retired Men’s Association will host a trio of speakers whose topic will be “Reimagining the Greenwich Historical Society.”

The talk will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, Lafayette Place in Greenwich.

Debra Mecky (Executive Director of the Greenwich Historical Society), Peter L. Malkin (Chairman, Reimagine the Campus Campaign) and David Scott Parker (Architect) will discuss the exciting future of the Greenwich Historical Society.

The trio will address both Campus redesign and programmatic goals that will significantly increase the Historical Society’s services to the community through program expansion and enrichment; improve the facilities for collections and exhibitions on Greenwich history and the Cos Cob art colony; create a site that will be more accessible to everyone; expand and restore facilities and open up the campus; and increase budgets for education programs, enabling the Historical Society to serve more students and upgrade the spaces in which it preserves and presents the archives.

The Greenwich Historical Society was founded in 1931 to collect and chronicle the vibrant history of Greenwich and has actively pursued its mission at the Bush-Holley Historic Site since purchasing Bush-Holley House in 1957.

Debra Mecky completed her Ph.D. in 19th century studies. She has been the executive director of the Greenwich Historical Society since 1996. She served for 11 years as curator of education and then executive director of The Historical Society of Rockland County before coming to Greenwich.

Peter Malkin is the Chairman Emeritus of the Empire State Realty Trust. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College and magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. He is the Chairman of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Dean’s Council. Mr. Malkin has founded numerous charitable and civic organizations including: Greenwich Green & Clean, the Greenwich Tree Conservancy, Greenwich Adopt-A- Road, the Merritt Parkway Conservancy, the Metropolitan Aircraft Noise Mitigation Committee, and New York City Business Improvement Districts for Grand Central, 34th Street, and the Fashion Center Partnerships.

David Parker is Principal of David Scott Parker Architects, an award-winning architectural firm that specializes in residential and museum design, as well as historic preservation.
