More Bang for Your Buck? 5-Minutes Longer July 4th Fireworks Displays in Greenwich

Screen Shot 2014-05-31 at 8.47.46 AMAt last week’s Parks & Recreation board meeting, members discussed a creative approach to improving an already fantastic Independence Day fireworks shows in Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park.

Parks & Rec director Joe Siciliano said that the cost of the fireworks displays are roughly 20-22 minutes show per location, with the show split across two locations — Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park.

Siciliano said that through donations, five minutes could be added to each show to make them all the more enjoyable for residents.”Five minutes more per location becomes just better show,” he said.

“If we could come up with another $5,000 or $6,000 we could buy another ten minutes in total to the package,” Siciliano said.

“All the other logistics are here: The police department, fire department, GEMS,” Siciliano said, adding that residents are already contributing donations ranging from just a few dollars to $500 for a total as of May 27 of between $1,200 to $1,500.

Siciliano said the additional five minutes will have no impact on the traffic or logistics of the show.
