What’s Open, What’s Closed on Martin Luther King Jr Day in Greenwich

Almost all stores are expected to be open.

Greenwich Public Schools will be closed.

Greenwich Library will be closed.

The YMCA of Greenwich will be open regular hours.

The YWCA of Greenwich will be open regular hours, 6:00am til 9:30pm.

Town Hall will be closed.

Many banks will be closed, including Bank of America, Citibank, People’s United Bank, TD Bank and Wells Fargo Bank.

Metro-North trains will operate on a Saturday schedule.

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed.

Connecticut state offices will be closed.

U.S. government offices will be closed.

The Post Office will be closed and there will be no regular mail service.

Bruce Museum in Greenwich will be open.

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk will be open.


To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, consider attending the Words Still Matter event at the YWCA on Wednesday. The event will be held on Wednesday, January 18, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the YWCA Greenwich, 259 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich and is open free for all members of the Greenwich community.

With the recent rise in hate speech and hate crimes across the country, the 2017 event will focus on “Why Words Still Matter” in the context of building a community without hate.

Featured guests will be Moderator, Steve Ginsburg, Director – Connecticut Region, Anti-Defamation League; Deirdre Daly, U.S. Attorney, State of Connecticut; Bobby Walker, Jr., Chief Executive Officer, Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich; and Dr. Salvatore Corda, Interim Superintendent, Greenwich Public Schools.Words Still Matter – Building a Community without Hate Event Honors Martin Luther King at YWCA Greenwich
